Bolt Analysis

The Minimum Bolt Diameter was found in Figure A.9. The bolt diameter was determined by using the force found in the drop test and applying a factor of safety of 2. The minimum diameter found was 1.9 mm but a common bolt of M3x.5 will be used.

Figure A.13 shows the stress that is caused in the bolts of the shock tower and the length of engagement required. A series of calculations had to be done to determine the fighting torque and force of bolt. The stress found in the bolt was 237 MPa but with two mounting bolts it lowers that value to 118.5 MPa. The bolt need to have 4 mm of engagement to meet the materials properties for shear.
